How much of your car do you have to replace before it’s no longer the same car you bought? It feels like there is something to replace or fix in your car every other month. All of those costs start to add up after a while, but that’s part of owning a car.
How often do things need to be replaced though? Everyone knows you should replace your oil around every three months, but how often should you replace your tires? It’s not as easy to know when you should replace your tires. There are a lot of different factors that can impact how often you need to get them changed.
When to Change Your Tires
Tires can be one of the most complicated parts of a car. There are a lot of different things you have to keep in mind when you’re thinking about getting a new set of tires. Tires can be made for different terrain, types of cars, seasons, and weather. All of these things will factor into how long your tires are able to hold out. Your driving habits will also have a pretty big impact on the health of your tires.
So, how do you know when you need to change your tires? Well, most tires have a life of between 25,000 to 50,000 miles, but again that depends on the factors listed above. One of the easiest ways to check your tires is to measure the tread with a penny. Face Lincoln’s head towards the tire and put it between the treads of your tire. If Lincoln’s head is covered by the tread, then your tires are good to go. On the flip side, if you can see his head, then it’s time to get a new tire.
